Bacteriostatic water is USP-standard sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol. The benzyl alcohol is a preservative that inhibits microbial growth within the vial. It's the standard reconstitution diluent for lyophilized peptides in research workflows because it keeps the reconstituted solution viable across multiple draws over the 28-day open-vial window, rather than forcing a fresh single-use vial each time the way plain sterile water would. The benzyl alcohol doesn't interact with the peptide structure and washes out at the working dilutions used in assays.

Store sealed vials at room temperature (15–30°C) away from direct light. Once the stopper is punctured, refrigerate the vial at 2–8°C and use within 28 days. Don't freeze it. Freezing can alter the benzyl alcohol concentration and compromise the bacteriostatic effect.
